Import Duty Reduction on CBU, SKD, CKD Bikes in Budget 2025
The Government of India has announced significant reductions in import duties on motorcycles imported into India in various forms. These cuts, introduced in Budget 2025, aim to make premium and imported bikes more affordable for consumers.
Revised Import Duties:
- Completely Built-Up (CBU) Motorcycles:
- Above 1600cc: Reduced to 30% (previously 50%)
- Below 1600cc: Reduced to 40% (previously 50%)
- Semi-Knocked Down (SKD) Units:
- Reduced to 20% (previously 25%)
- Completely Knocked Down (CKD) Units:
- Reduced to 10% (previously 15%)
The most significant reduction applies to motorcycles with engine capacities of 1,600cc and above, with import duty slashed by 20%, providing substantial cost benefits. This will positively impact high-end motorcycles such as the Harley-Davidson Fat Bob and Street Glide, Triumph Rocket 3, and BMW R 18 Transcontinental. With lower duties, these models are expected to become more accessible to Indian consumers.
These import duty reductions should lead to lower ex-showroom prices, benefiting enthusiasts and potential buyers of imported and premium motorcycles across India.
